US President, Trump Explains Why He Fired FBI Director, Comey
United State’s president, Donald Trump, has explained why he sacked Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), James Comey, saying those against him over the development would soon thank him.
In a letter to Comey, Trump said the intelligence chief was “not able to effectively lead.”
“The president has accepted the recommendation of the attorney general and the deputy attorney general regarding the dismissal of the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
“The FBI is one of our nation’s most cherished and respected institutions and today will mark a new beginning for our crown jewel of law enforcement,” Sean Spicer, White House spokesman, said in a statement.
Tweeting on Wednesday, Trump gave reason for his action.
He wrote: ”Comey lost the confidence of almost everyone in Washington, Republican and Democrat alike. When things calm down, they will be thanking me!
”James Comey will be replaced by someone who will do a far better job, bringing back the spirit and prestige of the FBI.
”Cryin’ Chuck Schumer stated recently, “I do not have confidence in him (James Comey) any longer.” Then acts so indignant.”
Trump’s critics, however, insist that the US leader fired Comey over the ongoing probe of his campaign top officials’ alleged collusion with Russia to influence the US election last November.
