Manchester United have begun talks to sign Newell’s Old Boys starlet Luciano Cingolani.

The Red Devils’ academy director Martin Mackey is reported to have been in touch with the Argentinian club, report Rosario 3.

The Rosario-based club have yet to reply to the enquiry, according to Mackey, with the United chief also intent on Cingolani remaining with the club for the time being.

But United have registered their interest and appear intent on making a move when the timing is right for the young striker.

The heartwarming reason why Paul Pogba and other football stars are celebrating goals with ‘shackles’ gesture to TV cameras

A recent documentary has brought to light the plight of immigrants arriving in Libya, attempting to find their way to Europe – and footballers are now showing they are keen to help raise awareness.

The war-torn country has become one of the main routes used by trafficking networks since the downfall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, offering safe passage but instead selling would-be migrants to the highest bidder.

Undercover CNN reporters revealed how, in scenes reminiscent of the 18th and 19th century, auctioneers were advertising a group of West African migrants – referred to as ‘merchandise’ – as “big strong boys for farm work”.

Footballers have begun to use their global profiles to draw attention to the issue, with Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba the biggest name so far.

French ace Pogba made a ‘shackles’ gesture following his goal against Newcastle at the weekend, looking to bring greater publicity to the situation in Libya.

Jamie Carragher has an interesting theory on why Jose Mourinho felt the need to slam Manchester United fans

Jamie Carragher has a very interesting theory on why Jose Mourinho felt the need to criticise the Manchester United fans back in October.

At the time, the Red Devils boss leaped to the defence of Romelu Lukaku following a 1-0 win over Tottenham, telling Red Devils supporters the Belgian should be immune from criticsm.

“My job is to protect my players and Romelu is one of the players who should be untouchable in terms of respect from everyone,” said Mourinho.

“It’s not one ball or goal that his the post or one save from the opposition goalkeeper that can make Romelu’s contribution below the top level.
