– Saraki, in a video posted on his Facebook page, told the youths that their participation in the polls will prevent rigging
Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki has urged Nigerian youths to participate in the forthcoming 2019 elections, stressing that their participation in the polls will prevent rigging.
Saraki who is the director-general of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council, made the plea in a video posted on his Facebook page on Sunday, February 10.
The Kwara-born politician called on all young Nigerians of voting age to see the 2019 election as a test of the strength of their numbers, adding that with 51% of the voters on the register being youths, they make up the most crucial voting bloc in the country.

His words: “To the young people of our nation, I want you to know that you cannot afford to just sit on the sidelines any longer. All across the world, young people like you are deciding who will lead their nations. The youth of Nigeria have an opportunity this time around to become the deciding factor.
“On February 16, you must come out and vote. To sit at home is not an option. You have a big say in your future only if you vote.
“I have read a lot of comments about young people saying that they won’t vote because their votes do not matter and that people want to rig the election. Here’s my answer: ‘If you vote, they can’t rig!’
“The more people that come out to vote, the less likely it is for those that want to manipulate the results to do so – its a simple mathematics. It is the numbers of registered voters who failed to come out and vote that the riggers seek to manipulate in inflating votes for a candidate or group of candidates.
“I urge you all, take this election seriously, and together, we can make history together by saving Nigeria’s future.”

Meanwhile, a pan-Yoruba pressure group, the Agbekoya Farmers’ Society has pledged support for the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in the forthcoming presidential election.
In a meeting with the deputy chairman of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council (south), Otunba Gbenga Daniel, the group expressed their interest in the presidency of Atiku, saying his developmental policies especially the issue of restructuring, will allow every zone of the country to develop at its own pace.
In the words of the national secretary of the group, Dr. Moses Ogunsanya, “The Buhari-led administration has been the worst period for farmers across the southern and Middle Belt of Nigeria. Forget all they are saying about making gains with the agricultural sector, the present administration supervised an assault on us with the herdsmen attacks. While we were crying, the government looked the other way.”
