Why I still Celebrate Jide Fashekun-Dalung

By Sylvanus Ofekun

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung has eulogies late Olajide Fashekun,a famous investigative Journalist who died early this year after a brief illness. He described the late journalist as a courageous fighter who died in the struggle for Justices.

Dalung made the remarks when the family of the late Journalist, led by Engr.Samuel Fashekun alongside directors of the NSDFI  led by former Olympian Mary Onyali MFR paid the Sports Minister a thank you visit in his office on Monday.

“I celebrate Jide every time; as a great man, a patriot, his love for his country and justice was iconic. He died fighting and it is the aspiration of everybody in the struggle to die fighting. The worst thing that would befall anybody involved in the struggle is for history to record it for him that this is where he abandoned the struggle. It is our dream that it should be recorded in our favour when we are long gone that this is the print where he died fighting. And we can say it repeated without fear of contradiction that Jide died fighting”.Dalung stated.

The Sports Minister also encouraged members of his family, friends and associate that the spirit and Soul of  Jide Fashekun still lives with those who believed in him.He challenged the younger generation of Journalist not be scared of Jide Fashekun’s death.

“Jide’s spirit and soul is still living with those who believed in him, the exit of Jide should not scare anybody.

“Right people should think rightly and defend what is right, what is wrong, is wrong and there is no way you can augment it.”The Minister added.

In his responses, Mr Chika Nwankwo who spoke on behalf the Nigeria Sports Development Funds Initiative (NSDFI) thanked the sports Minister for his support.

High point of the visit was the presentation of a thank letter by the younger brother of the late Journalist,Engr.Samuel Fashekun and NSDFI director Mary Onyali MFR to the honourable Minister of Sports for his all round support towards the family.
