The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has released a breakdown of Covid-19 cases in the country at the local government area level.

The Nation reports that the NCDC’s breakdown shows that 20 local government areas account for 60% of the confirmed Covid-19 cases in Nigeria. Nigeria has 774 local government areas.

Legit.ng gathers that 11 of the 20 LGAs are Lagos state, Nigeria’s epicentre of the coronavirus pandemic.

Below is a list of the top 20 local government areas with highest Covid-19 cases:

Nigeria’s total COVID-19 cases exceed 10,000

1. Lagos Mainland council – 1,274

2. Abuja Municipal council – 536 cases

3. Mushin LGA (Lagos) – 458

4. Eti-Osa LGA (Lagos) – 403

5. Tarauni LGA (Kano) – 248

6. Katsina LGA – 242

7. Alimosho LGA (Lagos) – 239

8. Kosofe (Lagos) – 175

9. Dutse (Jigawa) – 170

10. Ikeja (Lagos) – 168)

11. Maiduguri (Borno) – 167

12. Nassarawa – 152,

13. Oshodi/Isolo (Lagos) – 132

14. Apapa (Lagos) – 131

15. Amuwo Odofin (Lagos) – 129

16. Oredo (Edo state) – 126

17. Bauchi – 114

18. Lagos Island – 111

As of Saturday, May 30, the NCDC said it has tested 62,583 samples, adding that about 10,023 contacts of positive patients had been followed up till date.

According to the report, 7,276 confirmed cases (74%) have unknown sources of exposure, giving credence to heightened community transmission.

Breaking: Covid-19 cases finally confirmed in Kogi state

Males accounted for 67% of the cases and female 33%. So far, Nigeria’s Cases Fatality Rate (CFR) is three per cent.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s total confirmed Covid-19 cases as at the time of filing this report stands at 10,578.

The latest figure was released by the NCDC on Monday night, June 1, with confirmed 416 new cases confirmed in the country.

The NCDC also disclosed that twelve new deaths were recorded as the number of fatalities increased from 287 to 299, while 115 patients were discharged as recoveries increased from 3,007 to 3,122.

The 416 new cases are reported from 20 states: Lagos-192, Edo-41, Rivers-33, Kaduna-30, Kwara-23, Nasarawa-18, Borno-17, FCT-14, Oyo-10, Katsina-7, Abia-5, Delta-5, Adamawa-4, Kano-4, Imo-3, Ondo-3, Benue-2, Bauchi-2, Ogun-2, Niger-1.

Breaking: Lagos discharges 17 more coronavirus patients

A total of 10,578 confirmed COVID-19 cases have now been recorded in 35 states and the FCT.

As at Monday, only Cross River State has not recorded a confirmed COVID-19 case.
