Badagry monarch seeks better understanding among oil stakeholders

By Emma Amaize

LAGOS— THE Akran of Badagry, His Majesty De Wheno, Aholu Menu Toyi 1, has advocated greater synergy among oil producing communities, oil multinationals  and Federal Government to enhance peace and ensure rapid socio-economic development of oil and gas bearing communities in Nigeria.

The traditional ruler, who played host to the national executive of the Host Communities of Nigeria, HOSCON, at his ancient palace in Badagry,  said: “I am happy that oil has been discovered in my kingdom and we would be happy if my kingdom is accorded all benefits, rights and privileges that is associated with oil production in Nigeria.”

He noted that HOSCON has been in the forefront of advocacy for equity, justice and fair play in the oil and gas producing communities of Nigeria, adding: “We,  in Badagry, will appreciate if HOSCON extends such fatherly support to our community as a young oil producing community in Nigeria.

“We,  in Badagry,  are pleased with our new status as oil producing community and we are ready to partner any developmental agency and pressure group that has the capacity to teach us the way to go to enable our people benefit maximally from the oil and gas that God has blessed this great and ancient kingdom of Badagry with.”
